How to read this table
Prices are what you actually pay
The per-month figure is the effective cost of the longest term we list. The total next to it is what leaves your account. Renewal prices are usually higher and are the provider's own published rate, not ours.
Jurisdiction is a legal fact, not a quality judgement
A provider registered in a Five, Nine or Fourteen Eyes country sits inside a data-sharing alliance. That does not make it dishonest — it changes what a government can compel. Where a provider has been subpoenaed and produced nothing, we say so.
Audit counts are dated and named
We count independent assurance engagements against the no-logs claim, not company blog posts. Apps-only audits are noted but not counted the same as infrastructure audits.
Prices are verified on a schedule
Every figure was last checked on the date shown at the top of this page. If a price has changed since, the provider's own checkout is always the authority.
Straight about what this is
This is a comparison site funded by affiliate commissions. When you click through to a provider and buy, we may receive money. It does not change your price and it does not change where a provider appears in this table. Providers cannot pay to be ranked higher, and we do not accept payment for reviews.
Comparison questions
Which VPN is the cheapest?
On the longest term we list, Private Internet Access at $59 for three years, followed by Windscribe at $54 for two. Monthly prices are a different picture entirely and are always far higher — that gap is the main thing to look at before you commit.
Which VPN has the best privacy?
Proton VPN scores highest on our privacy component because open-source clients, Swiss jurisdiction and five consecutive Securitum audits are all independently verifiable. NordVPN scores highest overall because its RAM-only fleet enforces the no-logs claim in hardware rather than policy. Private Internet Access is the only one with two documented US federal subpoenas answered with 'we had nothing'.
Which VPN is best for streaming?
ExpressVPN has the highest streaming score of the eleven, at 9.4. CyberGhost has the friendliest setup for beginners because every server is named after the service it is for. Mullvad and IVPN score low here and do not attempt it, which we treat as a legitimate choice rather than a fault.
Is it worth paying for the longer term?
The discount is real — a 2-year or 3-year term can cost less per month than a single month does. The risk is renewal, because the promotional price does not persist. Check the renewal rate, and note the date you would need to cancel by.
What does a limited device count mean in practice?
It is the number of devices that can be connected at the same time, not the number of devices you may have installed. A household with four people and two phones and a laptop each reaches ten easily. NordVPN's limit of 10 is comfortable; CyberGhost's 7 and IVPN's 2 are tight.
