Private Internet Access review
Open-source apps, unlimited devices, port forwarding, and the only no-logs claim proven twice in US federal court.
What we like
- Proven no-logs claim twice in US federal court, in 2016 and 2018
- 3 years for 59 USD total — the lowest monthly price in our table
- Unlimited simultaneous devices and open-source apps
- One of the few providers that still supports port forwarding for incoming traffic
- Token-based system for separating recurring and one-off payments
What we don't
- US jurisdiction means 5-Eyes obligations and the greatest exposure to legal compulsion in our list
- Owned by Kape Technologies
- Streaming unblocking is narrower than dedicated competitors
- Interface is powerful but not beginner-friendly
Our verdict
The most interesting evidence story in this list. An audit tells you a system was configured correctly the day it was inspected; two federal subpoenas tell you the data did not exist when the government actually asked. What you give up for that is jurisdiction: a US-based provider lives under laws that can force cooperation. For torrenting and power use specifically, PIA remains hard to beat.

Score breakdown
The weighted total, and what each component contributed. Weights are published and identical across all eleven providers.
Why we scored it this way
Open-source apps, a Deloitte audit history and two genuine court tests. US 5-Eyes jurisdiction caps the privacy score because a US provider can be compelled to cooperate in ways Panama or Switzerland providers cannot. The 3-year price is the cheapest term in this list.

Private Internet Access questions
How much does Private Internet Access cost?
The cheapest plan we list works out at $1.64 per month for 3 years, which is $59 in total. That figure can change at any time — we last verified it on the date shown above — and it is the effective cost of the whole subscription rather than a headline monthly rate. You get 30 days to change your mind.
Can Private Internet Access really be trusted not to log my data?
The claim is supported by 3 independent audit engagements with Deloitte, the most recent dated 2026-01. RAM-only servers: Yes. Intelligence alliance membership: Inside the alliance. Real-world legal test: yes — there is a documented case. We rate what is verifiable rather than what is promised, which is why this answer scores the way it does.
Why does Private Internet Access score what it scores?
Private Internet Access scores 8.5 out of 10, which places it number 6 of the eleven we review, under the badge 'Best for power users'. The score is a weighted sum of privacy, speed, value, streaming and ease of use, with the weights published in full on our methodology page. Affiliate commission had no influence on any component of it.
